Why new design language?

iRobot was using design language called NUCLEUS for many years. At year 2024, iRobot decided to made a huge change on product technology which turns or visual camera algorithm into all Lidar algorithm for better cost efficiency. Once the Lidar cover is on, the old Nucleus design is no longer scalable and efficient to all products. That is why we made a call to make GRID design language which match all product functions; no matter there is a half cover top; no cover; or bin that can be taken from top.

All other brands are about doing the same. Every each of their Lidar position and button location are same. If we continue use it. It is quite hard to differentiate from other brands.

GRID use different CMF to identify functional blocks.
